ADAM PITT

ARTIST STATEMENT: I have always believed that Artists should work from their experience and shed greater light on the human experience. When Art becomes too formal or too personal it can loose its ability to communicate to its viewer.

I am an artist who makes a living in a large corporation working in Computer Information Systems. I spent a number of years working on Wall Street, and as an employee lived through the destruction and Chapter 11 of Drexel Burnham. I was also involved in running a very large Year 2000 conversion and coordination project for my company. I Graduated with a degree in Cinema and Communications from Ithaca College, and studied art at the New York Studio School and in Southern France. I am currently a middle manager at a fortune 500 company and have a wife and 3 daughters.

I find the corporate environment to be fascinating. As a visual artist I find myself separated from it. I see the businessman as an icon. His power, fear, demands, weaknesses, identity, stoicism and his lack of self awareness give me my artistic material. He is the product of our culture and our time and is our symbol of man. The dynamics of his relationships with his fellow workers is our model of society. There is horror, humor, humanism, and irony surrounding all I do.

I have been influenced by many different types of art from many different times in history. I find the simplified elegant form, and intensity and honesty of African and Oceanic Sculpture to be a large influence on my work. I am also a great admirer of German Expressionism. I spend a lot of time at museums and galleries. My artistic pursuits have taken me to the Edvard Munch Museum in Oslo Norway, the Kirchner Museum in Davos Switzerland, various other museums and galleries in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, and Australia. I also visited the Sepik River Tribes in Papua New Guinea.
