Langford, Bible Black, Acrylic on Panel, 2007 |
Jon
Langford returns to the Rogue Buddha gallery
in Minneapolis for his second exhibition.
A native of Wales, Jon Langford studied art
at the University of Leeds. He first visited
the U.S. in 1980 with his band, The Mekons,
in hopes of following in the footsteps of
his rock idol, Joey Ramone. After ten years
of shuffling back and forth between the U.S.
and Great Britain he finally decided to make
is home in Chicago, Illinois. While touring
the United States Jon became enamored with
the country music scene and jumped in headfirst.
After a visit to Memphis Jon was inspired
but vintage country western publicity photos
plastered on the walls of local watering holes.
It was at this time that Jon began painting
again,. The work presented shows how modern
country music abandoned its soul for the masses
even know there is more life in its ghosts.
Jon will be in attendance at the opening and
will perform with his band Skull Orchard at
FIRST AVE. that evening.
